WASHINGTON - As a young girl, Ms Liu Mei Fung would help out in her parents’ Chinese takeout restaurant in Louisiana after school, making wontons and taking customers’ orders.

Having experienced first-hand the amount of work that went into running a restaurant, she swore not to get into any culinary-related line of work – but fell in love with cooking as a teenager, and eventually began helping her parents man their restaurant’s fryers.
