LISBON – You know BMW is serious about sustainability when it hands out water bottles instead of bottled water to journalists at its press event in Lisbon, who are here to try out the new BMW X2 in two guises.

The grey car is the electric iX2 xDrive30, while the green one is the M35i with a 2-litre turbocharged engine and no hint of electric assist.
