Communities in India push for national Covid-19 memorial to bring closure

KOLKATA – The Indian city of Kolkata’s iconic landmark, the Victoria Memorial – a large colonial-era marble monument dedicated to Queen Victoria – stands glowing in its elegant evening illumination, just as it does every day.

But, on March 24, another memorial – far more diminutive, but nonetheless important – found itself in the spotlight at a park next to the monument dedicated to the 19th-century British empress.
