BEIJING - By and large, former Chinese president Jiang Zemin was not known to be a particularly revered or popular leader when he was in power.

The Chinese joke about how high he wore his trousers – nearly up to his chest – and his severely slicked-back hair, which, when paired with his signature large square-rimmed glasses, made him look like a toad, they said.
